Puppy Class
For 11 weeks to 20 weeks
Puppy Foundation training – get to grips with reward based training the Harrogate Dog Training way and get your puppy’s education off to a great start by setting solid foundations. We work on Handling, Food Manners, Sit/Down/Stand, Stay/Release Cue, Wait/Release Cue, Leave, Recall, Give & Drop, Loose Lead Walking as well as Settle on Mat, and some fun Target games too! Learn about canine communication and body language and appropriate play-both with other puppies and dogs as well as with humans.
Puppy Foundation is ideal to start to establish those first baby steps training cues to get those polite behaviours we want from our adult dogs. You will learn about a force free approach to handling your puppy and how to train using positive reinforcement. In addition, there will be lots of practical advice including:
- Separation & Crate Training
- Preventing common behaviour problems
- Teething & Puppy Play Biting
- Toilet Training
- Socialisation and what that really means
- Why our puppies do what they do
- Reading body language
- Appropriate human-puppy interaction within busy families
Q&A at the end of each class so you can get some feedback and personal advice.
Weekly support email along with exercise work sheets for each class so you can build your puppy training folder for future reference!
Puppy Plus Class – Adolescence
For 6 months to 18 months
Progression class for those who have enjoyed the Puppy Foundation training. Training our pups to ensure we are consistent in setting our boundaries is an ongoing process where we carefully, at the pup’s pace, layer her training so we can start to ask for a little more! Once our pups begin the adolescent phase behaviour can seem erratic, early training can seem to go backwards and new behaviours can appear. This class is ideal for support and keeping on track with your early training as well as learning about adolescent behaviour so we can understand why our pups do what they do.
Gundog Skills Class
For young dogs with a good basic sit/stay, recall and retrieve (it’s ok we will be progressing and polishing these up in class!) These skills are invaluable for general focus and engagement with your dog out in the exciting big wide world! You don’t have to own a gundog breed or have any intention of taking up gundog sports – but what we teach our working gundogs translates perfectly to our pets – particularly the working breeds or working mix breeds. If you enjoy training with your pet – this is the class for you! Teaching our dogs self control is something we should all aim for as this leads to FREEEEEDOM! ahem…. sorry…. for your dog to safely enjoy all those great off lead walks you dreamed about when you first brought her home!
